After a long and exhausting photo shoot, I enjoy nothing more than chilling out at my local cafe, sipping great coffee and watching the world go by.
Canberra is a fantastic city with a great collection of cafes and restaurants. It is a real foodie’s delight, with some people even coming here on weekends because of the gastronomical delights.
There are great cafes in every corner of Canberra.
Pets and especially dogs are an important member of many Canberra households. It is therefore no surprise that Canberra boasts a thriving dog-friendly cafe scene as these cafes are making them accessible and inviting for dog and pet owners. These cafes are catering to this demand by offering welcoming outdoor spaces, water bowls, and sometimes even special dog treats, some may even have specific menus for your four-legged friends.
People seeking dog-friendly cafes in Canberra look for genuine inclusivity with they are ordering their coffee. Not just tolerance. This includes ample space for their dogs to comfortably sit or lie down without obstructing pathways, secure areas or tethering points, and staff who are relaxed and happy to see canine customers. Many people will appreciate cafes that provide water and are understanding of the occasional dog-related mess. Ultimately, Canberrans want a cafe where they can enjoy quality coffee and food in a relaxed atmosphere, knowing their beloved pets are not just allowed but truly welcome.
If you are looking for a quick bite to eat or a much needed coffee top up, here are my top dog-friendly cafes in North Canberra.

Gang Gang Cafe and Bar
Gang Gang Cafe and Bar is located at Downer Shops in the inner north of Canberra. It is a short drive from Dickson or the city centre. Gang Gang Cafe and Bar is a haven for dog owners. Its spacious outdoor area with plenty of seating and tables provides ample room for furry friends to relax comfortably.
The construction of the large covered area just made the cafe even more inviting and a perfect place for relaxing and enjoying a chat and a brew with your four-legged friend. Open seven days a week from 7.30am to 3pm, so you can roll up for breakfast or brunch. The first thing that I noticed was a collection of water bowls for your thirsty pets.
It has a great menu, the coffee is fantastic, and the staff are very friendly. The relaxed atmosphere and community vibe ensure both humans and their canine companions enjoy a delightful experience, making it a top choice for dog lovers in Canberra.
What makes Gang Gang even more attractive is the playing fields opposite. It is an off leash area for dogs to get their morning or afternoon run around when they are not booked for sports. When I was there recently, there were plenty of dogs running off leash around in the park enjoying their Saturday morning frolic.
